Headaches
Stiff & tight muscles
Collagen production disruption
Muscle fibre break down
These are a few of the main effects that stress has on the human body from my point of view as a Soft Tissue Therapist. All of these things contribute to a domino effect throughout the body causing the potential for acute and chronic pain to develop.
Unfortunately, lack of sleep is very common for people who are stressed and this only causes more problems. Lack of sleep leads to a tired mind and a tired body. Body fatigue feels heavy and draining, causing a 'lazy' effect in the muscle fibres which then switch off due to lack of movement and energy.
So what's the key to eliminating stress? Control the stress before it controls you! A few common ways of doing this are meditation, yoga, long walks, reading a book, listening to music or treating yourself to a massage. Everyone is different so you may need to try a few of these before you find one that works for you.
