Question: Do you know how much information there is out there for warm ups and cool downs?
Answer: The limit does not exist! (If you didn't get that reference please google it and re-read the answer to fully appreciate it).
With information at the tips of our fingers, there has become an abundance of opinions, studies, articles, blogs, comments and debates over this topic in the fitness industry. I, a fellow lazy girl, am here to help you out in finding the sweet spot. The perfect warm up that takes the perfect amount of time and leaves you perfectly perfect for your exercise regime. Perfect!
1. Get the blood flowing with some light cardio (LIGHT... don't hate me)
A walk, light jog, star jumps, tuck jumps, or any cardio machine at your chosen gym will do. This is to introduce movement to the body and get the blood flowing to your muscles ready to contract, relax, and get your gains!
2. Activation (If you haven't already, click here for my 'build a booty' blog)
No matter what exercise you are doing, you will always need a good base. Activating your prime stability muscles will help assist in preventing injury, correcting technique and not looking like an idiot. *Start with these videos for some guidance:
- Squats
NB: You can do these exercises without the theraband as long as you are concentrating on the resistance and purpose of the exercise. A lot of movement is mind-body perception so as long as you think about activation, you will achieve it. Get creative!
*Make sure your core is switched on in all your warm ups!
3. Dynamic & Static stretching
The great debate! If I'm honest, I don't care which one you choose because as a lazy girl I am proud you are even choosing one in the first place! Stretching (no matter the kind) is again to increase blood flow to the area and to prepare the tissues and muscle fibres for movement. Choose your top 3 stretches (dynamic or static, or both!) and perform each of them for AT LEAST 30-45 seconds to allow for the effects to reach the deeper layers of the tissues. Simply bouncing in and out of a stretch is useless and you look stupid (you know you do).
That's IT! Simple, yeah? The Lazy Girl has done it again. Saved you time on googling, trying ridiculous Instagram stretches and probably a good hour of useless scrolling. You're welcome.
Moving is good because it makes you HAPPY!

PS. Move more, move better
